Business Suit Tips

When purchasing suits for business purposes there are a few points that need to be considered. You need to look professional if you're going to wear a suit, so take a few minutes longer when you're buying a suit to ensure it fits well. A suit says a lot about the man wearing it.

First of all, it must be tailored. Do not even think about buying a suit off the rack. The jacket and paints must be adjusted to provide the best fit. If you insist on buying off the rack, get a sports coat and contrasting slacks.

Be sure your tailor measures you in clothes typical to what you will be wearing with the suit. Don't have a sweater on or just a t-shirt. Wear your belt when the tailor is measuring you. Some stores won't suggest this, but I have found it to be vital to a good fit.

Regarding the color and pattern (if any) of the suit, I suggest something dark. I like a faint stripe or check of say blue on a black or charcoal colored suit. This says you're professional and gives you the option of wearing a wide variety of shirts and ties. At a quality men's store you will be able to find several suits like this to choose from.

A gray suit is fine too but I'd suggest a pattern if you buy a gray suit. Without a pattern, the suit can look like you're in armor. With a gray suit you'll probably want to stay away from a white shirt so you don't look washed out.

Rely on your salesperson to help pick out shirts and ties to go with your suit. Try to work with an experienced salesperson (look for gray hair). He/She will know what is popular and what goes well with the suit(s) you've selected.
