Cufflinks look fantastic when added to your dress ensemble. They should be included in the wardrobe of every man who wishes to look smart. That should be every man, but sadly it's not the case.
Over recent years, cufflinks have grown in status to such an extent that many consider they should be chosen first, and your shirt and tie later picked to match them. They should certainly be considered as part of any fashionable dresser's accessories.
Check out the photos in magazines and newspapers of the best dressers, usually attending gala dinners, oscar ceremonies, opening nights etc. You will see that most of the men are dressed in their designer suits sporting cufflinks.
It is however, not only the rich and famous who are wearing cufflinks. Gone are the days when you had to own a Bentley with your own chauffeur to be seen wearing them. Most men with any fashion sense are wearing them to add that touch of class to the finishing look of their attire. They can set off the whole outfit if chosen correctly. A fine finishing touch.
You must have a nice shirt... no, the perfect shirt and the best, and most stylish men's suit you can afford. Black suit and good cuflinks is, always has been and probably always will be the correct contrast.
Cufflinks come in as many shapes, style, colors and materials as its possible to imagine. You can buy stylish gold or silver items. Cufflinks resembling miniature ipods. Circles, squares, checkered and barcoded.
Dartboard design, and designs indicating your passion for soccer, tennis, poker, drinking, movies, dominoes, golf ... you name it, and I'm pretty sure you can buy it. You can even have them made as minature replicas of your home.
To be taken seriously though, the design of your cufflinks, if anything other than classic style, should be subtle. You will spoil your whole attire if you are smartly dressed in an Armani suit with silk shirt and tie, and a pair of giant beer mug cufflinks dangling from your sleeves. Not good. There is so much to choose from but like I say, keep it subtle.
