the guide to mens suits

Custom Suits

Custom suits, otherwise known as bespoke suits, have lost much of their market share over the past few decades. In today's consumption society reign, nearly all products in use are mass-produced and the same applies to clothing. When it comes to men's suits in particular, there is an available alternative older than the suit itself.

Prior to the Industrial Revolution, all garments were custom made by tailors using their customer's preferred material. This process was named "Bespoke". In addition, suits were crafted according to the customer's specific measurements and favoured styles.

Ironically, what was once considered common is now considered luxury. With thousands of retailers

offering ready to wear suits, indulging in an original piece created from scratch might weigh heavily on the wallet.

Nevertheless, if the budget permits it, the benefits of a tailored custom suit, most definitely outweigh their cost. The fit of a tailored suit represents an outstanding advantage. After all, what can surpass a custom fit when it was designed precisely with you in mind?

Besides the fit, other bonuses include the choice of fabric, the addition of embroidered details, the amount of pockets and buttons, as well as control of overall features and style.

If one can't afford the extravagance of a custom made suit, they can always opt for minor alterations of an existing suit. This affordable alternative can be viewed as a consolation prize since it offers part of the same benefits. However, certain components of a suit such as its Lapels or Vents might be non modifiable or in the least, consist of complex altering accompanied by price increase. Therefore in order to maximise the value, while keeping the cost at its lowest, the alterations should remain minimal.

Most tailors will hold a portfolio of chez-d'oeuvres, which customers can review before assigning them with their suit's creation. Discussing details thoroughly with the tailor prior to his task and coming to a mutual understanding will usually generate the finest results.

The use of a tailored suit is recommended for special events such as weddings, speeches, exclusive parties or any other suitable occasions. Wearing a custom made suit surely feels great, even without mentioning comfort, because it enhances the individual's confidence by representing something truly original.
