Hong Kong Tailors

Men's Silk Suits

Hong Kong tailors are known throughout the world. You must have seen films set in the past featuring a Chinese businessman wearing a very heavily embroidered silk suit, usually cream colored. Men's silk suits in the past were owned by the rich. They kept you warm in the winter and have a cooling effect in warmer weather. That same wearer from the movies would be wearing a much lighter, but probably no less decorated silk suit in the summer because pure silk fibers breath and keep you cool.

Nowadays, silk suits are not merely owned by the wealthy. Nothing looks quite so stylish and sophisticated on a summers evening than a man wearing a beautifully tailored silk suit.

As the world of business grew, more men wore a smart suit to their place of work. Wool replaced silk as the fabric of choice for men's suits. Wool had the same warming and cooling effects as silk, but it required a blend of them both to attain the best affordable compromise.

Whilst a pure silk suit would undoubtedly produce the finest cut and hang, it was prohibitively expensive to all but the rich. The wool / silk blend enabled more men to acquire a fine suit at a reasonable price.

Men's suits made from pure silk being both expensive and difficult to fabricate, have by tradition been hand crafted by only the finest tailors. These suits were incredibly expensive, but would last forever…assuming the wearers body stayed the same shape forever!

Modern times are different. A silk suit, despite still being considered a luxury item is much more affordable to the masses. Designs have altered. Business and social suits can be made from pure silk, the only difference being the extra touch of class, feel and elegance.

It's still possible to pop into the Hong Kong tailors shop for measuring, return the next day for a fitting and alterations, and have your new silk suit delivered to your hotel room 24 hours later. And at a very affordable price. And this is not confined to Hong Kong. This type of service is now available all around the world.

So you see, it is now so different to the days of the Chinese guy in the big heavy silk suit in the movies. Now everyone can easily find a tailor that makes men's silk suits.
