The Navy Blue Suit

Navy Blue Suit. You Don’t Have To Be A Sailor To Wear It.

In some lights, navy blue can appear almost black. That’s because it’s such a dark shade of blue, so named due to the color worn by sailors of the British Royal Navy in the 18th Century.

Jackets of this color are still the favorite item sported by yachtsmen, and can be suitably worn to many social functions. Blazers alone are sometimes embroidered with particular items or designs of interest to the wearer. The aforementioned yachtsmen often wear blazers embroidered with gold braid, resembling ropes.

Men’s suits in navy blue are not reserved solely for the social dresser. You can look very smart indeed wearing a navy blue business suit that is well designed and complemented by the correct accessories.

Your tie will have to stand out against the color of the suit. Shades of red and pink, or even lighter shades of blue present in the tie work very well. An ideal look would be a navy blue suit, white shirt and pale blue tie.

You can (and should) of course experiment with the look. After all, you are trying to create a favorable impression. Its all about perception, or more exactly how you are perceived by others.

As they say, first impressions really do count. You would be foolish to have your lovely suit spoiled by wearing the wrong shirt or tie, so do take time to check it through.

There is really only one color shoe that can safely be worn with a navy blue men’s suit, and that is black. Anything else simply doesn’t work. Brown shoes in any tone other than very dark will provide too much of a contrast to the suit, and draw the eye towards them.

Of course, you can mix and match slightly, depending upon where you will be wearing the suit. If it’s a business setting, always choose the more formal shirt and tie additions. Plain white or pastel colored shirts with a darker tie will be perfect. For social gatherings, a more relaxed patterned tie and bolder shirt can also work well with a navy blue suit.
