What Color Shoes Should I Wear With My Suit

Help! What Color Shoes Should I Wear With My Suit?

Very little can contribute to a huge fashion disaster than wearing totally the wrong color shoes with your suit. Of course, it goes without saying that what looks good with one outfit may not look good with the whole of your wardrobe.

If you are wearing a black, dark gray or navy blue suit then black shoes will never be wrong. If you decide upon brown shoes, they must be dark in tone. Certainly lighter shades of brown with a dark suit will never work.

If you are wearing a very light colored suit or even a white one, then a light shade of brown or light tan could work. The lighter in tone the suit the lighter shade of shoes you should wear. Often a contrasting belt will help to avoid too much of a contrast in the suit and shoes.

You should always try to include a tie of similar color (or at least containing a similar color) to your shoes if you are ever doubtful of a perfect match. The tie can, quite literally "tie" the ensemble together. Often wearers take little notice of how the shoes match to the outfit. When they check themselves out in the mirror its usually only from the waist up.

Slip-on shoes should never be worn to any formal event. Always use lace-ups. Remember too, that even lace-ups with wide spaces between crossovers can appear casual, so choose carefully.

Consideration must also be given to the finish or the material from which your shoes are made. Nice smooth shiny black leather shoes may match perfectly with a nice black men's suit worn in a business environment.

However, don't merely consider the color. Imagine black suede shoes worn with the same suit. Suede (Hush Puppies for example) will rarely match well with any suit. Certainly not in a business environment. The same thing applies to slip-ons and loafers.

Keep them clean and well polished. Socks are important too and should always match the color of your trousers unless your suit is light brown, then your socks should match the color of your shoes.
